Lists containing conjunctions

I'm trying to edit a document that has a list of items that include at least one compound item...not sure how to make it obvious the item is intended as a conjunction. Here's an example:

For dinner, I ate steak, macaroni and cheese and green beans.

This is not the actual list, and the order of the list is important so I can't get around the problem by reordering.

Thanks!

Re: Lists containing conjunctions

I think you mean combination item.

Do you mean:
"For dinner, I ate steak, macaroni and cheese,(COMMA) and green beans."

The commas group the ideas into single items, and two item combined that represent a culinary dish.

"For breakfast, I had cereal, bangers and mash,(COMMA) and toast."

Re: Lists containing conjunctions

OK, combination item. Your suggestion would work if we used the oxford comma here, in my organization it is not typically used.
