Semi colons in lists of names

I type minutes of meetings and the attendee list is typed as linear. I always separate names with semicolons as below:
Joe Soap; Fred Bloggs; Henry Ford; etc.
According to the book "Grammar For Grown Ups" I should use commas but to me, semicolons look more polished. Am I right or not?

Re: Semi colons in lists of names

It's not a matter of "polish", but using a punctuation mark of the appropriate 'weight'. I'd say that semicolons are too heavy for a simple list of names, an overkill, and that comma separators are quite adequate.
