I'm currently learning about gerunds and participles. I'm starting to get the hang of it; however, I do have one question. What is the "complement of a noun?" For example, "we spent the whole day playing cards." According to the website this question is from, playing is the gerund and it complements the noun "whole day."
I don't quiet understand this. I thought a complement was a noun, pronoun, or adjective that comes after a linking verb. Can someone please break this down for me? Sorry if this is a silly question.
