Grammar

Could you tell me the following sentences are correct and why?
1. According to the chart, the least number of students like reading books.
2. The majority of students like reading novels.

Re: Grammar

1. According to the chart, students like reading books the least.

Stop thinking about grammar and syntax for a moment and think of the logic of what you are saying. Students are asked, which do you like most:
(a) listening to music
(b) watching a movie
(c) reading a book.
The students rate the ACTIVITY, which one they like MOST, and which one they like LEAST. The WHOLE GROUP likes reading books the LEAST.

2. The majority of students like reading novels.
Another group of 100 students rate the activity of reading a novel as either LIKE or DON'T LIKE.
55 students (the majority) say they LIKE reading novels.
