lay, lies, lie

What should I choose in this sentence:

"They are thinkers whose geniuses lay/lie/lies as much in how they ask questions as in how they answer them."

I looked in an unabridged dictionary, but I can't be sure.

Should it be "lie" since geniuses is plural?

Thanks.

Re: lay, lies, lie

It's lie, and you're correct.
