Metaphor

My Seventeen year old thinks the sentence, "You are 3 years old." is a metaphor. Can someone explain to me why he is wrong or right. I tried to explan to him that a metaphor is two unlike subjects that try to make a comparision but he doesn't agree with me. Basically, what he is saying is just a sentence with no Metaphorically attributes.

Thanks

Re: Metaphor

You are right. There is succinct explanation of 'metaphor' in Grammar Monster's glossary of terms here.

If I really really stretch my imagination, then I suppose everything other than "You are you" could have metaphoric attributes, because anything other than a perfect comparison must have elements of unlikeness. (< oh jeepers, now I'm making up words!)

I might try and argue this point just for sake of an argument, but in truth I can't take your son's side on this one.

In my view, you win. You're a star. (< now, that's one)
