Do we write: "in the spring of 2000" or "in the Spring of 2000"?

There is no real reason to use a capital letter. However, an old ruling which many still follow is:

If the season is personified then use a capital letter. e.g.

- You can see the icy breath of Winter.
- I went to Paris in the winter.
