Starting a sentence with And

Does anyone know an answer to this question? is it possible to start a sentence with and?

I.E. "my name is John. And i live in a house."

is this just used dramatic effect or is it actually grammatically correct?

Cheers all, you'll solve an office argument with this!

Re: Starting a sentence with And

Why not simply say, "my name is john, I live in
a house." Why do you want to use "and" when you
don't need to? I have used "and" to start a
sentence, mostly for effect.

Re: Re: Starting a sentence with And

Firstly,

my name is john, I live in
a house.

is a grammatical error. You cannot simply put a comma and then write another sentence.

The answer to your question is yes. You can start a sentence with and. It is used for dramatic effect. Therefore, you should not use it too often. Also, it should be followed by a comma.

It is covered HERE

Re: Re: Starting a sentence with And

I am afraid both a true.

Grammatically, it is considered fine these days. However, you should reserve it (according to most style guides) for a dramatic effect, becaues many people still judge it to be an error.
