The explanations of "as to"...?

Yo everyone! I'm an ESL teacher in Brazil and I'm having difficulties explaining the rules of the use of "as to" (basically why and how to use it). For example: "I have no idea AS TO where to begin." Could anyone help me?! Thanks!

It's a good question. Personally speaking, I would teach it at all. If I was proof reading that sentence, I'd remove the "as to".

So, if you're not going to teach it for active use, you still have the problem of students coming across it. I can think of no synonyms for "as to" other than nothing. Perhaps that the answer. If you see as to, ignore it.

Can you think of an example that destroys that rule?
