With different sides facing up/upward/upwards?

I write technical documents and I want to write that objects shall be placed with different sides facing up/upward/upwards? Which word is correct to use?

Or is it better to write "place the objects with different sides pointing up/upward/upwards" ?

Thanx/

Re: With different sides facing up/upward/upwards?

This is the same structure as:

With different engines running quietly.

Quietly is an adverb. Therefore, 'upwards' is the right answer, as it is an adverb. ('Upward' is the adjective.)
