encompasses vs. encompass

I'm having a debate about the grammatically correct way to phrase a sentence on a cover letter. The sentence is:

My background and skill set encompasses all these things.

Is it encompasses or encompass?
Does anyone know the rules for this?

Re: encompasses vs. encompass

The answer is "encompass" because the subject of the verb is plural.

A is nice.
A and B are nice.

It's as simple as that.
