regardless or regardless of?

More English grammar issues:)

"Regardless (of) the battery condition, charging shall always start....."

Shall there be a "of" in the sentence or not?

Regardless attracts 'of'.

'Inspite' does too, but 'despite' doesn't.

Perhaps that's the root of the confusion.
