I have deleted some of the entries off this thread, because my advice was wrong (thanks for the heads up, Chris).
The car needs to run more often.

It was run.
Therefore:
The car needs to be run more often.
Yea thats right. Run is present time. Ran is past time.
Therefor 'GM' is correct.
