Did anyone work in Galloper Thompsons?

Re: Schooldays

Worked there on Saturdays. Chopped sticks, fingers, thumbs....
Don't remember getting paid though!!

Re: Schooldays

Still got scars myself. I remember the big circular saw with no guard. Lucky no-one lost an arm!!

Re: Schooldays

Got scars myself, not from the hatchet though but from collecting 'dunnage' from the ships. Had to go aboard and throw planks down to big Bobby. Scars are from the scelfs I got from the untreated wood.

Re: Schooldays

Worked for galloper. Wasn't allowed to use the circular saw. Chopped, bundled and went down to the dock to load his van. I remember when Galloper started to use plastic bags instead of single tied bundles of sticks.

Re: Schooldays

Remember a family living above Gallopers. Can't remember the name but one of the daughters was gorgous. Think their door was in Nelson Street.
