This forum has a long history, by interent standards anyway-unfortunately it has been abandoned for far too long due to real life circumstances knocking the heck out of what had been my very real desire to keep this board alive and well forever so that all of us could meet here and communicate with each other everyday.

I'm not sure that a forum like this is even needed nowadays since the advent of facebook, etc...but I hope that this once thriving BB does bring some of us back together again and that maybe some new folks will join us as well!

snow in London?!

I just got back from having lunch with Julie and Chelsea at a McDonald's near Julie's school and I was out in our garden when I saw a few snowflakes!
The weatherman says we're due for some snow this weekend, if so, it'll be the first snow here on Easter in 25 years.
BTW, a McDonald's quarter pounder tastes exactly like the U.S. one, the fries are the same, too. I don't know why that surprises me, lol.
A lot of our fast food franchises operate over here, too...KFC is everywhere, Burger King and Pizza Hut are here also.
Safeway is here, so is Walmart but it's called Asda here.

The big grocery store chains aside from Safeway are Tesco, Iceland, Sainsbury's and Morrison's. Marks and Spencers is a big department store chain that includes a grocery section.
There's a Woolworth's everywhere here. Superdrug and Boots the Chemist are all over, too.

The grocery stores tend to be smaller, though some are as big as our big ones-like the Tesco's we shop at a couple of times a month. It has most of the things we have, but naturally a lot of the items are from british food companies...and of course, there's a lot of food items you don't normally see in U.S. food stores. Not just the obvious things like sheperd's pie, bubble and squeak etc, but lots of foods that appeal to East Indians, Jamaicans, Chinese people, etc.

Coca-Cola is huge here, Pepsi seems to be fighting a losing battle, but I've only seen a small slice of London so far.
There's a lot of our candy here and a lot more that we've never seen in the U.S.
There's quite a few places nearby that deliver hot food-especially pizza, curry, kebabs and chinese food. I have been very pleasantly surprised by the pizza here. Every one I've had has been great! So, I will be able to live here, lol.
I'm still sometimes thinking and saying 'dollars' when it's 'pounds' here, but it's happening less often. This isn't the best time to be exchanging U.S. money for U.K. money, but times are tough all over and you won't hear me complain.

Re: snow in London?!

Bob you are in London England now. What took you there. Sorry if I am being nosy.

Re: snow in London?!

Snow? We got an inch or two over here aswell by this mornings snowfall. Looks pretty outside the window, with the trees all covered in new snow.

Re: snow in London?!

Robert, No, of course it's not being nosy to ask. I've come to London to be with Julie. I arrived on January 26th after a long flight from Seattle. We'll be coming back to the USA to wrap things up in Port Townsend, Washington in a month or so. Somewhere down the road we may move back to the U.S., but for now we'll be living in the UK!

A.B., that's cool! Figuratively and literally, lol. No more snow here yet, in fact the sun is out, but it's getting colder...and the sun just hid behind a huge cloud. Please keep us up-to-date on your snow and we'll do the same. T G C!

~bob, sitting next to Julie who just cooked a huge afternoon breakfast for us, MMMMMM.

Re: snow in London?!

BobP, Sir!

Almost all snow thawed during mid day. Outer regions only have snow left where sun never got to it. 23 degrees F last evening, and now currently being ca 36 degrees F. Weatherforecasts states more snowfall during weekend. But you know how those weatherforecasts are.... "promises, promises promises"...

Some of the cams in the below site are from Stockholm. For example the 3 cameras on the 4th row, are placed directly by eachother, facing in order from left to right: west, north, east. I pass by were these cameras are located, every time I go to and from work, as it is 1 of the citys 2 large public transportation-hubs. (By the way, the text under the images that reads "Störst bild", means "Largest image" in English).

We should have had my side of the family over for easter dinner today, but wife suddenly turned ill. She evidently got caught by the bug our daughter had earlier this week. Wonder when it is going to sink its claws in to me....

Re: snow in London?!

Can not type evidently. The part: "...now currently being ca 36 degrees F.", should have read "....now currently being ca 26 degrees F."

Re: snow in London?!

We had snow a couple of weeks ago. several inches. it stuck until later that day when the heat rose. freak snow in march. but it's not the weirdest weather i've seen here, or anywhere for that matter.
