This forum has a long history, by interent standards anyway-unfortunately it has been abandoned for far too long due to real life circumstances knocking the heck out of what had been my very real desire to keep this board alive and well forever so that all of us could meet here and communicate with each other everyday.

I'm not sure that a forum like this is even needed nowadays since the advent of facebook, etc...but I hope that this once thriving BB does bring some of us back together again and that maybe some new folks will join us as well!

BAGHDAD (AP) -- The leader of al-Qaida in Iraq, Abu Ayyub al-Masri, was arrested in the northern city of Mosul, the Iraqi Defense Ministry spokesman said Thursday.

Spokesman Mohammed al-Askari said the arrest of al-Masri, also known as Abu Hamza al-Muhajir, was confirmed to him by the Iraqi commander of the province. There was no immediate confirmation or comment from U.S. forces on the arrest.

The U.S. military in Baghdad said "we are currently checking with Iraqi authorities to confirm the accuracy of this information."

Interior Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Abdul-Karim Khalaf said that Mosul police "arrested one of al-Qaida's leaders at midnight and during the primary investigations he admitted that he is Abu Hamza Al-Muhajir."

News of the arrest was also reported by Iraqi state television and Arab satellite TV stations

Re: Iraqi army says Iraqi al-Qaida leader arrested

This is very good news for just about everyone.
In the same ap story by this patrick quinn it states that he was given up by someone close to him . Who told the iraqi police where he would be at a particular time. Hope fully the iraqi s can get a lot of information from him saving a lot of iraqi and american lives. The al queda group must be falling apart. I wonder who will defend al queda here in this country now?

U.S. denies Iraq claims of terror leader’s arrest
Man seized by Iraqi forces is not al-Masri after all, American military says

BAGHDAD - A man seized by Iraqi forces is not the head of al-Qaida in Iraq, the U.S. military said Friday, despite earlier announcements by several Iraqi officials that Abu Ayyub al-Masri had been captured.

Iraqi security sources, speaking to Reuters, had already begun to cast doubt on the earlier announcement that Abu Ayyub al-Masri, an Egyptian also known as Abu Hamza al-Muhajir, had been captured in an operation in Mosul on Wednesday. One senior security source in Mosul told Reuters the man seized in that raid was an Iraqi.

U.S. military spokeswoman Peggy Kageleiry said "neither coalition forces nor Iraqi security forces detained or killed Abu Ayyub al-Masri. This guy had a similar name." She said Friday that no additional details were being provided
