This forum has a long history, by interent standards anyway-unfortunately it has been abandoned for far too long due to real life circumstances knocking the heck out of what had been my very real desire to keep this board alive and well forever so that all of us could meet here and communicate with each other everyday.

I'm not sure that a forum like this is even needed nowadays since the advent of facebook, etc...but I hope that this once thriving BB does bring some of us back together again and that maybe some new folks will join us as well!

Official: Afghan attack kills 9 U.S. troops

A vedry sad day for our troops..RIP
=====================================

The attack is the deadliest for U.S. troops in that country since 2005

KABUL, Afghanistan - A multi-pronged militant assault on a small, remote U.S. base killed nine American soldiers Sunday in one of the deadliest attacks on U.S. troops since the 2001 invasion, a Western official said.

Militants fired machine guns, rocket-propelled grenades and mortars from homes and a mosque in the village of Wanat in the northeastern province of Kunar, a mountainous region that borders Pakistan, NATO's International Security Assistance Force said in a statement.

The attack on the relatively new outpost began at 4:30 a.m. Sunday and lasted throughout the day.

Nine U.S. troops were killed in the attack, a Western official said on condition of anonymity because the deaths had not yet been officially announced.

Lt. Col. Rumi Nielson-Green, the top U.S. military spokeswoman in Afghanistan, said she could not comment because the battle was ongoing. She referred calls to NATO headquarters in Kabul.

NATO said in a statement that there have been casualties on both sides but accurate numbers could not be confirmed because the fighting was ongoing.

The attack appeared to be the deadliest for U.S. troops in Afghanistan since June 2005, when 16 American troops died were killed — also in Kunar province — when their helicopter was shot down by a rocket-propelled grenade.

Those troops were on their way to rescue a four-man team of Navy SEALs caught in a militant ambush. Three SEALs were killed, the fourth was rescued days later by a farmer.

This is a breaking news story and will be updated.

sad news indeed. Rest in Peace the fallen.

Re: Official: Afghan attack kills 9 U.S. troops

sadly we can locate a pin from outer space, but our technology can not pickup a couple hundred bad guys sneaking in on us. Sounds like human error again, remember Charlie at 0430, their favorite time to attack us sleepy head American soldiers.

Goes to show you technology is not always the best way, awake OP's and LP's are

And having claymore mines more machine guns . Plus severaql gunships in the air during the night hours like the c 130s. No we dont know if our soldiers made the taliban pay dearly for that attack apparently the out post wasnt overrun so hope fully there were lots of terrorist bodies lying on the ground. as a lesson to said terrorists.

Re: Official: Afghan attack kills 9 U.S. troops

Duane were you ever involved when charlie breached your perimiter, I was.

These bad guys breached their perimiter that is why the casualty count was 9 KIA and 15 wounded.

We [they] are very fortunate that the count is not higher, which it still could go up depending on how seriously wounded some of these men/women are. Lets hope they will be alright.
