Boy, you had to look far and long to find that one, eh Russ? No, probably not. Whoever you let do your thinking for you these days probably emailed it to you. Otherwise, you would probably have seen the rest of the story.

What you have is Gallup's Traditional Model - it counts who you say you are voting for in this election and averages it with who you voted for in the last election. The result of that approach is that it downgrades the value of someone who says that they are voting for Obama if they voted republican in earlier races. Now I know that may be a little complicated for most of you right wingers, so lets just make it simple. Here are the other Gallup Polls that your informant forgot to tell you about:

Gallup Poll of Likely Voters (based on current voting intentions only): Obama 51%, McCain 44%

Gallup Poll of Registered Voters: Obama 50%, McCain 43%

Of course, as the Gore-Bush election proved beyond doubt, national polls don't really mean anything. Gore beat Bush by more than half a million votes in the national count - but it is the electoral college votes that count. And in those, Obama leads or ties McCain in every single "battleground" state.

And what is probably painful for you Russ is that Obama has a big lead in Pennsylvania - and what should be reaaallly painful for McCain, is that McCain only leads Obama 46-44 in Arizona.

Everybody needs a dream, Russ, so just keep on dreaming.
