Re: Ulcerative Colitis

Hello...I suffered from Ulcerative Colitus (UC) for
many, many years, starting at about age 16. I lost much blood, went to specialists, and could never find the cause. They said they always saw more in older patients.

In 2000, I had my colon removed. A colon is suppose to be "a gray tunnel". Mine ended up looking like
"bloody hamburger" and actually was about to quit working. I had it removed and now have a "J Pouch"
internally working for me.

Knowing what I know now:

1) Have soup and/or shakes for as many meals as you can. Isagenix shakes are great and you can add fresh fruit, etc.
2) Go on a cruise or a vacation or anywhere you and your entire body can just relax.
3) DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING CARBONATED: Beer, Pop, etc.
4) Try to eat soft foods for awhile to get your colon to rest...soft vegies, soft like oatmeal, cottage cheese with fruit. I found that Orange Juice, coffee, anything acidy aggrivated the situation -
booze did too! If you are a smoker - you must quit.
if you need help with that, I can tell you hints on that, too.
5) Drink tons of water...try flavored water if you don't like reg. water.

I found that fellow patients all had extreme amounts of stress, didn't eat right, and didn't exercise enough.

For myself, I realized that I had grown up in a home where exteme stress was out of my control, and I
internalized it - whenever I could not "fix" an stressful situation, I became ill knowing I couldn't.

Hope this helps!!! Good luck and stay stress free!
