Alcoholism, Xanax, lamictal

Our son desperately wants to quit drinking and is under the Dr's. care. He is on Xanax for anxiety and panic attacks. His job is high stress and has put him over the edge. One Dr. put him on Cymbalta which almost drove him crazy with all the side effects and coming off it, too! The new Doctor wants to put him on Lamictal which is a mood stabilizer, but after reading all the horrible side effects on line, he is not anxious to take the prescription. It is scary!
His insurance does not cover a detox center for alcoholism. He is afraid to take the new Lamictal which the Dr. feels will help him quit drinking.

He most likely will cut back until he stops drinking since the other alternatives are not available for him. Any help would be appreciated. Please email me. Thank you!

Loretta

Re: Alcoholism, Xanax, lamictal

This is not a pharmaceutical remedy, but have you ever heard about EFT (emofree.com), it works for me for pain, anxiety etc. It involves tapping on various acupressure points. I've read that it helps with all sorts of issues, including addictions.

There is also a book, The Mood Cure by Julia Ross, in which she deals with nutritional rehab for a more successful recovery from addiction (including alcoholism).
