Doping Case Edita Daniute
Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) granted Request for a Stay
The athlete, Edita Daniute, is with immediate effect allowed to continue to compete, including to participate in the IDSF World Championships Standard to be held on November 25, 2006 in Aarhus/Denmark.
Should the CAS come to a final decision confirming – or expanding – the period of ineligibility as stated by the IDSF Disciplinary Council, the athlete would – retrospectively – be disqualified from all events she participated in the respective period, incl. – but not limited – to the result of the IDSF World Championships.
In its – provisional – decision the CAS stated as main reason that in this case the interests of the athlete outweigh those of the IDSF or other participants, due to the fact that – should the Appeal be heard – the suspension and not-participation in the IDSF World Championship Standard could not be reverted retrospectively, on the other hand – should the Appel not be successful – the IDSF would still be in the position to reverse and readapt any results as necessary.
