WASHINGTON (AP) – A task force is recommending an increase in
D.C. taxi fares.
The panel is calling for raising the per-mile meter rate by at least 50 cents, bringing it to $2. A $15-per-hour wait charge would be increased to $24, and a $1 fuel surcharge would be eliminated.
The D.C. Taxicab Commission is expected to make a final decision next year.
The task force says fares should be raised so that drivers are compensated at a level comparable with neighboring jurisdictions.
The 13-member task force represents various groups, including riders, taxi drivers, restaurants and representatives from limousine companies.
