Please support your fellow drivers

Attention all drivers:

Dear fellow Chicago taxi drivers:

I'm writing to ask you to take an active role in supporting the "Day of Prayer and Meditation" for this Tuesday.

Please show support for your fellow drivers who have been taken advantage of by the city of Chicago. They need your help.

This Day of Prayer and Meditation cannot be successful unless drivers are made aware of it.

I'm not asking you to do this for me personally.

I'm asking you to do this for Karl Clermont who is being ignored by the city of Chicago after he filed a complaint alleging that a drunk, off-duty cop put a gun in his face.

I'm asking you to do this for Artur Shehu who had his medallion revoked by the city of Chicago because he didn't renew it on time, because he was dead.

I'm asking you to do this for Zubair Khan who was savagely beaten with a pipe wrench. The police aren't even actively looking for his attackers, though they call it an "open investigation." I'm also asking you to actively support the Day of Prayer and Meditation to raise awareness of the dangers of our profession.

I'm asking you to do this for Albert Ekekhor who had a frivolous complaint filed against him by a passenger who didn't want to pay his fare. The passenger complained that Albert was driving recklessly and that he was rude. At 400 West Superior Albert was coerced into paying the passenger back his fare. Support the Day of Prayer and Meditation to stop this kind of humiliation.

I'm asking you to support this for Mahmoud Alkhazaleh who is going through very stressful legal issues after being charged with a hate crime as a result of an altercation with a motorist.

I'm asking you to support this Day of Prayer and Meditation on Tuesday, August 11 to show remembrance to every Chicago taxi driver who has been murdered serving the city of Chicago.

Please show your active support by distributing fliers to your fellow drivers and letting them know that you support the Day of Prayer and Meditation. You can stop by my office to pick them up at 2341 W. Belmont.

Thank you in advance for your help. Please let me know if you have any questions or need anything.

Chicago Dispatcher

Re: Please support your fellow drivers

I never saw mention of the last two people being wronged previously. Did I miss this? There is a lot of injustice when it comes to dealing with the city.

The Dispatcher publication always seems to back off when the heat gets too high.

When a homeless guy was murdered by an off duty police officer at North Pier years ago the public outcry was very strong. So strong that charges ended up getting filed even though he was "let go" without charges at first.

We should have marched every day until Michael Jackson got what was due to him- a death sentence. Prayers and meditation are good for the soul. However, we would really need to band together and take strong actions to get what is right. Can anyone imagine what would have happened to killer Jackson if he has run over a human being with a different occupation?

Strong action needs to be taken. As a long time driver I can tell of many horror stories I have heard of and also seen in trial at 400 W. Superior. Another kind of action would be better than a prayer day to deal with this. Perhaps we should all take a two week vacation at the same time. Not a strike, just a vacation. Too bad we will never be in the same book let alone on the same page.

Re: Please support your fellow drivers

George, I did not like you cozying up to REYES and saying yes to all the unfair things she has done to cabbies.
