Gas Price Watch: Fuel Surcharge to Expire

At 12:01 a.m. Thursday, September 17th, the $0.50 fuel surcharge will expire. Please note that this is a correction to an Industry Notice sent last week which erroneously stated the fuel surcharge would expire Wednesday, the 16th.

The price of gasoline published by AAA’s Daily Fuel Gauge Report for the Chicago Metropolitan Statistical Area for September 14, 2009 is $2.67 per gallon. Gas prices have remained below $2.70 for five consecutive business days.

In accordance with section 9-112-510 of the Municipal Code of Chicago, the taxicab fuel surcharge will come off at MIDNIGHT on the SEVENTH CONSECUTUVE BUSINESS DAY that prices remain BELOW $2.70. The surcharge will come off Thursday, September 17th at 12:01 a.m., should prices stay below $2.70.

The Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection monitors the gas prices daily and will advise the industry prior to removing any surcharge.

It is illegal to charge an unauthorized fuel surcharge. Please contact the Public Vehicle Division at 312-746-4300 with any questions.

Why doesn't the commissioners office drive around to see that none of the stations here in Chicago sells regular gas for under $2.70 a gallon? Why should the commissioners office go along with tripple AAA motor club? The commissioners office needs to be cleaned up!

I agree, with you on that. The gas in downtown Chicago and the Northside of Chicago. Is, way over $2.70 a gallon. This whole city needs to be cleaned. Start with city hall

If the Tripple AAA Motor Club where the city gets their information, informing the city that the gas prices went down to .10 cents a gallon, the city would be crazy to believe that just to remove the surcharge.
