Bias in the media

Chicago sun times put on FRONT COVER laste tueday a story about cabdriver hicham ichou the story said he sexually assauted woman passenger. this is terrible if he did this. but even if he guilty why is this on front page?

there is war in iraq war in lebanon and chicago police accused of torture. why is cabdriver on front page of sun times? this would not be front cover if he were any other busines.

thank you. Ahmed.

Re: Bias in the media

Ahmed,

Well said. I agree with you 100 percent. Cabdrivers are always easy targets for the media. Wanna know why? It is because we don't fight back. We don't write letters to the newspapers. We don't call our Aldermen. That's why.

Thanks for pointing that out Ahmed.

Re: Re: Bias in the media

Please do not draw your attention away from what this man has been accused of!!!

I don't know if he is guilty or innocent but I think that sexual assault is more than worthy of being front page news whether it was by a taxi driver, a priest or anyone else for that matter.

And let's not forget that cabdrivers have the public's safety in their hands. It's worse if a cabdriver commits such a crime than if it were by an average person who doesn't have the public trust in their hands. Maybe that's why it made front page news.

Re: Re: Re: Bias in the media

Sarah, you make a good point but I could also say that since taxi drivers serve the public they should also receive press when bad things happen to them. But that you don't see. I don't even think a taxi driver getting killed while serving the public gets front page news anymore.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Bias in the media

Look sexual assualt is a bad crime, but in a city as large as Chicago the must be at least 10 cases of it a night. It did not diserve the front page

Re: Re: Re: Re: Bias in the media

Taxi man makes a good point. Driving a cab is one of the most dangerous professions a person can have. Drivers are attacked, assaulted, robbed and murdered, but their stories rarely make the newspaper much less the front page.

In my opinion, the only reason this story made it on the front page was because of the alleged circumstances involving the case. The part of the story where this woman thinks a group of people are going to attack her, is "rescued" by this driver, and then supposedly attacked by her rescuer - that's what put this story on the front page to me. The "rescuer" becoming the "attacker" sounds like a movie plot.
