Unions?

i have a question. i am new driver and i want to know what unions are available for drivers to join. is there any groups that look out for driver interests or work on behalf of drivers for their betterment.

There's no "union" but there are ways to get help if you need it.

There used to be a group called the Chicago Professional Taxicab Drivers Association but they disbanded a few years ago. Their former president was an outspoken guy named Steve Weidersberg and he still helps cabbies a lot. I think he's mostly a south side guy.

The Ghanaians have a drivers association. They have been known to help drivers, even outside of their organization and even if they are not Ghanaian.

There's also the Chicago Dispatcher newspaper. If you have an issue that a lot of other drivers have, they might take an interest in it and report on it or look into it on your behalf.

There's also a group called the Taxi Brotherhood. I don't know what they do to help drivers but they get interviewed by the news sometimes because they are always complaining about something.
