Re: GPS????????????

My understanding is that GPS is prohibitively expensive per unit. Cabs have to carry enough equipment without having to install a unit that costs thousands. For companies, it is one more thing for drivers to tear up. For owner operators, it is one more thing for them to purchase. The taxicab industry is being hit from a thousand different directions from underwriters who don't want to insure the cabs, expensive premiums, inflexible regulations, increased fuel prices and overregulated fares. They don't need this, too. The government has enough control over this industry without using an eye-in-the-sky to catch cab drivers speeding.

GPS - How Big Is Your Brother

Many in CHicago believe that our City law enforcement agencies want GPS so they can catch us speeding via satalite surveilance.

Its absolutley Creepy. They already have automated cameras in some intersections that take your picture if your run thelight. Theys end you time-lapse pictures and demand payment of a fine.

No complaining cops or witnesses, no court, no right to a trial.

We are looking into getting the City law changed to make it illegal to buy, sell or give any GPS or on-board camera info to the city or for the city to receive such info, except by written permission of the driver.
