Taxi Strike - NYC taxi group meets to decide on 2nd strike vs. GPS technology

NEW YORK (AP) - New York City's taxicab owners now have until January 31, 2008 to install global positioning and credit-card processing systems in their vehicles and pass inspection.

Meanwhile, a coalition of taxi drivers that led a two-day strike to protest the technology in early September said they were meeting Monday night to decide on whether to strike again.

Taxi Workers Alliance Executive Director Bhairavi Desai said an announcement of her group's decision
could come soon.

Her group's previous strike failed to win concessions from the city. Alliance members believe the technology could be used to track drivers' movements.
