The new cabdriver organization founded by strike organizer Melissa Callahan and other cabdrivers is moving forward with plans to hold elections for group leadership.
A four-person interim committee, made up of Callahan and fellow cabdrivers Adetunji Osinloye, Zafar Bhatti and Anil Sahay, was selected to help the organization move forward until such time that a permanent leadership group can be elected.
On Tuesday, October 2, the group held a vote of confidence at both O’Hare and Midway airports. According to Callahan, out of 455 votes collected, 439 were in support of this new organization.
In the future, the group will hold elections for permanent leadership. According to Callahan, other drivers will have the opportunity for leadership positions. Additionally, Callahan said she and the other committee members will work to prepare the necessary paperwork to register the organization with the Secretary of State.
