Solution in works to O’Hare’s taxi-staging area parking issue
By: George Lutfallah

At least temporarily, drivers will be allowed to park on the right side of the taxi chute leading to the terminals while using the restroom and multi-use rest shelters at O'Hare Airport's Commercial Vehicle Holding Area as long as they don't block traffic, according to Karen Pride, Director of Media Relations for the Department of Aviation (DOA).

Ms. Pride said, “After several meetings with taxi drivers and members of the United Taxidriver Community Council, the Department of Aviation has implemented a pilot program to examine different types of traffic configurations to accommodate drivers who wish to use the restroom and multipurpose facilities in the Commercial Vehicle Holding Area. This is a work in progress that the DOA feels will fulfill both passenger and driver needs.”

According to Fayez Khozindar, the leader of the charge against the ticketing of drivers who had no practical and unrestricted place to park, an agreement was reached with Marcos Fernandez of the Department of Aviation to accommodate drivers. Mr. Khozindar expressed his gratitude to Mr. Fernandez for his cooperation.
