I'm glad we're getting the surcharge and I don't mind the increased fines at all since I never get DCS tickets. What is totally unfair is the part that says the city can take away your livelihood if you have been accused of a felony.
I understand the reason why the city feels the need to keep suspected murderers and rapists from behind the wheel of a cab. The city suspends police officers and firemen all the time for misconduct. The difference is that they are usually suspended WITH PAY.
What is our recourse if we are accused of something that we are innocent of? Who will pay my mortgage and feed my family if some crazy passenger says I did something I didn't do? If I'm found innocent, can I sue the city for back pay?
this is exactly why we need a union. thats a major difference between cops and cabdrivers. they have a union so if they are suspended its with pay because the union wont stand for it.
Chicago cops are widely known nation wide for corruptions, mistreatments, racisim and beatings of innocent poeple. They are racist towards cab drivers because we have different accent, look different and we drive cabs.
Cab drivers and immigrants are easy pick target for chicago cops. When cabbies face problems by bad customers, what the cab does? sometimes they even side with the crimininals.
