I was talking with George Kasp earlier today and asked him how the surcharge was going. He said that not only was it going well with no complaints from passengers, but that overall his tips were actually increasing.
This struck me as strange because it was my belief that some passengers would take the surcharge right out of driver tips.
Mr. Kasp said that has happened on rare occasions but that overall he's seen the opposite effect. He said that the surcharge has raised an awareness among passengers about the fuel expense drivers have and has made them more sympathetic resulting in larger tips.
Mr. Kasp's experience is quite interesting. However it doesn't seem to match the results of the poll on the cabmarket homepage. Any thoughts on the discrepancy?
Real taxi drivers are out there working and collecting the extra money while this site is loaded with people who like to complain. Could that explain the difference?
