Most NYC cabs now take credit cards, but mainly get cash
NEW YORK (AP) – Officials say most New York City taxi riders still pay cash six months after the city started requiring cabbies to take credit cards.

Taxi and Limousine Commission Chairman Matthew Daus says about 80 percent of the city's more than 13,000 cabs now have credit-card processors. He told City Council members Thursday the remaining cabs will get the technology by fall.

But 87 percent of taxi revenue still comes in cash.

Some drivers resisted the credit-card requirement and say it has proved to be a problem. Taxi Workers Alliance Executive Director Bhairavi Desai says some drivers wait weeks for payments from credit-card transactions. The alliance is an advocacy group that says it represents about one-fifth of the city's 44,000 licensed taxi drivers.

No to credit cards in chicago cabs

see my postings below for why credit card is very bad for drivers!

Re: No to credit cards in chicago cabs

Chicago Taxi Cabs should only take cash. No more Credit Cards. The credit card companys are ripping us cabbies off. If, person wants to to use a credit card? Tell, them sorry. We are only cash cabs. So, go to an Atm.

Re: Re: No to credit cards in chicago cabs

If, the city wants us to do this stupid credit card rule? Well, Have them pay the percentage on are loss? When, people want to use a credit cards? I wish credit companys would be gone for good. Everybody would pay for everything with cash in life. Credit Card Companys are crooks. They need to be gone for good.
