Phila. cabbie accused of assaulting passenger
PHILADELPHIA (AP) – A Philadelphia cabdriver is accused of assaulting a passenger in a fare dispute.
Authorities say Ronald Blount choked a passenger and slammed her head into the roof of a cab when she got out after trying to pay by credit card. A prosecutor says Blount threw the woman back into the cab while continuing to choke her for about a minute.
In the past, Blount has publicly opposed having cabdrivers be required to accept credit cards, in part because of the fee going to the credit card company.
A felony aggravated assault charge was dismissed, but he's ordered to stand trial on simple assault, unlawful restraint, and other charges.
