The view from the first "ousider"

Weis, the first outsider to run the department in decades, defended some of his decisions and how quickly he has moved to make necessary changes. ``I was brought in because there needed to be a cultural change in the Chicago Police Department,'' he said.

One reason perhaps that Weis finds himself under such scrutiny is that he took the job at the exact time City Hall is making its push to get the 2016 Olympic Games. And a big part of any city's bid is its ability to keep visitors safe - in Chicago that means keeping visitors safe in Grant Park, which is not only the site of the Taste of Chicago but a spot where huge crowds will descend if the city gets the games.

SPOT QUIZ:

SO, did anyone email, mail or fax or call the alderman about an emergency council meeting to pass a meter increase ASAP?

Did anyone email, mail or fax or call the alderman about enacting a felony law for attacking an on-duty driver.

Did anyone come up with any good "driver's bill of rights" that can be included in the city law?

Re: The view from the another "ousider"

Ola!

What some "insiders" on this forum don't get is that we are all outsiders when it comes to decision-making regarding any taxi-related issue.

Besides, those "insiders" who label, target and belittle so-called "outsiders" do it for the same reasons the Klu Klux Klan, the American Nazi Party, and other right-wing lunatics do it - to spread their hatred, fear and paranoia and to divert from and confuse the real matters and issues we should be discussing.

Shalom!
