Fuel Surcharge Adjustment
As of today (10/27/2008), the cost of regular reformulated gasoline in the Chicago Metropolitan Statistical Area has been below $3.20 for three consecutive business days. As stated in MCC 9-112-510, when gas prices fall below $3.20 for seven consecutive business days, but remain equal to or above $2.70, drivers must adjust the surcharge downward to $0.50.
We anticipate reaching seven consecutive business days below $3.20, and above $2.70, on Friday, October 31.
Effective at midnight on Friday, October 31, the $1 fuel surcharge will no longer be in place. The $1.00 surcharge sign must be removed from the passenger compartment. A $0.50 fuel surcharge will then become effective.
A sign provided by the Department, indicating the $0.50 surcharge, must be posted in the passenger compartment for a driver to charge the surcharge. Signs are available at the Public Vehicle Division offices, 2350 W. Ogden. To avoid confusion, do not post the $0.50 surcharge sign until the surcharge adjustment becomes effective. Any driver who charges the surcharge without displaying the proper signage or charges an unauthorized surcharge, is subject to a minimum $100 fine.
Please contact Shellie Riedle at 312-746-4300 with any questions.
