TAXICAB INDUSTRY NOTICE

NOTICE OF PENDING EXPIRATION OF
FUEL SURCHARGE


Gasoline prices published by AAA’s Daily Fuel Gauge Report for the Chicago Metropolitan Statistical Area have been below $2.70 for two consecutive business days.

In accordance with section 9-112-510 of the Municipal Code of Chicago, the taxicab fuel surcharge will expire if average gasoline prices remain below $2.70 for a total of seven consecutive business days.

Effective at midnight on Thursday, November 13th, the $0.50 fuel surcharge is set to expire. At 12:01 a.m. Friday, November 14th, no fuel surcharge will be in effect.

Currently, taxi drivers are authorized to charge a $0.50 fuel surcharge.
As of 12:01 a.m. on Friday, November 14, taxicabs MUST NOT display surcharge signage. Failure to remove signage may result in fines of not less than $100 for each offense.
