Mate had a similar problem with his E type Jag, traced to the ignition system.

Thankx Mel,

Turned out to be overheating slightly. New thermostat and a good flush through seemed to have sorted it. Thankx for your help.

Souds like condenser or coil breaking down under load when hot.
