Rear Shocks

Please help. I have NGTF which I purchased not built so my Knowledge is limited.I had to take the car to the local garage as the nearside shock absorber fell out.I have now been told that the car is too low at the rear and the shocks were completely closed. The solution would be to either raise the rear by means of a plate under the leaf spring or the spring needs to be lower.Has anyone any ideas on how to solve this. Thanks.

Re: Rear Shocks

Neil,

Where are you based? I can't find you on the membership list? As you bought the kit unfinished, are you sure you have the correct MGB springs on the back? Can you put up some photos to make what you are saying clearer. regards Paul

Re: Rear Shocks

Irrespective of springs, even if they were cream cracked with the rear end sat on the bump stops the shocks should not be fully closed. The rear of the car would be much lower than the front and look wrong if there was a spring problem supporting the car.
I suspect if the car sits right that after market dampers of the wrong closed length are fitted.

Re: Rear Shocks

Your dampers should be either MGB lever arm dampers or MGB after market dampers.
The only alternative is that you have a Marina based car or perahps even a Ford based car - very rare.
I suggest that you send picture to office@ngcars.co.uk of both the car and the rear spring and dampers. I am may be able to help more from there.
