Radiator Fan Cowling

It seems that Nigella's hotness could be contributed to by there being no cowling for the fan.
Any ideas where I can source local to Herts? Seems to me I gotta trawl scrap yards or ebay.
Or of course local Ford dealer and buy new ;-(
Thanks

Re: Radiator Fan Cowling

Hi Brian,
I work for an engineering consultancy with all types of Automotive specialists their advice was invaluable when I had some overheating issues with my NG.

When does Nigella over heat? Driving under normal English weather conditions the fan shouldn't be required and only come on in slow moving traffic, traffic jams and car parks etc, the fan will have no affect what so ever if travelling over about 40 mph, if the fan is coming on when driving normally the radiator may be silted up or the wrong type for the engine size.

Other points to look at are:-

1/With the aid of dense foam or paneling try to prevent any air that enters the grille area from making a short cut round the sides, top or bottom of the radiator,

2/Ensure the cooling fan (assuming it is electric) is mounted as close to the radiator core as possible, this pulls air through the radiator core and helps to prevent it pulling air in from behind radiator through the fan.

3/Fit a multi core/competition type Radiator (this solved the problem with my car) well worth the change, it is so much more enjoyable to drive the vehicle not worrying about the temperature all the time.

Hope this helps

Cheers Chris Willett
