Re: Headlights

You could try these http://www.vintagecarparts.co.uk/products/ca1246-chrome-plated-headlamp-unit. You could buy 2 pairs and it would be cheaper than a posh rocker cover

Re: Headlights

Thanks for the information David but they are not big enough. When you do the conversion, 182mm works out at 7.16" so not a significant difference from what I have now....
Thanks anyway for replying.

Re: Headlights

Hi Paul.

An idea I had for my NG TF restoration - which I gut-wrenchingly had to sell recently - was to use vintage motorcycle headlamps which are a good 8" diameter and pretty imposing in their own right.

Eg: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360497668925

I'd actually planned to use the type which have a large bakelite switch on the back, wiring them in for good measure! Also to use the ones with built-in ammeters, but to remove the guts from this and add an NG logo behind the dial glass, having it all gently backlit - so when you look out over your long bonnet, you are reminded which car you are driving...

Finally, although I haven't been able to find them in 8" size - only 7" - if these can be modified (stretched apart slightly!) to fit the 8" headlamp bowls, I was going to mount the lamps using cast chrome-plated 'wishbone' brackets as fitted to old Triumphs; these holders curve and lean forwards slightly, and I think the whole effect would be incredibly 'retro', totally unique, and hugely impressive.

Eg: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/390515350223

Ok, still not 'cheap', but pretty darned good value

Re: Headlights

Thanks Donnie,

Definately food for thought......

Re: Headlights

Don't know whether you ever got your headlamps sorted, but I have just come across this site http://www.vintagemgparts.com/headlamps.html

Re: Headlights

Hi Ron,

Thanks for the info, I haven't managed to source any yet. Had a quick look and the prices still make my eyes water but more realistic than some I have seen....

Paul
