Re: NG TA handbrake cable/linkage

What handbrake does the TA use ? - My NG uses a MG Midget handbrake and shortened MGB handbrake cable.

Re: NG TA handbrake cable/linkage

Hello Malc. Thanks for your reply.
I have forgotten which cable I used. It is a Marina back axle, but I did not use any of the Marina fittings that were on the axle. I am presuming the build manual suggested the best one to use, but I do not possess it now.
The cable from the handbrake finishes at a long U shaped bracket. From there a rod is attached to each lever at the drum end. At some time during the last owners life time, it must have snapped at the drum end. The rod has been clamped by a nut and bolt inside the bracket that attaches to that lever. Because of that, the handbrake cannot be adjusted enough to allow the brake shoe to sit on the wheel cylinder at one side.
I think this will probably cause an imbalance when it goes for MOT.
I think I am going to have a browse through my MGB catalogue and see what I can come up with.

Re: NG TA handbrake cable/linkage

I have just been looking in my Ital Haynes manual. I think the handbrake cabke from the Marina/Ital might be worth a try. There is a single cable running to the handbrake lever and a cross wire wirh forks on each end running across the back of the rear axle. It just depends how much shorter the NG is to the Marina.

The handbrake lever in my car is from an MGB. Its a nice chrome lever but the bit that fits through the floir is a bit weak in my view.

Cheers
Jeremy

Re: NG TA handbrake cable/linkage

Hi Jeremy. Maybe I did use the original cable, I just cannot figure out why I did not use the original swivel joints etc, on the axle.
Thankfully it is working at the moment, so I have time to try another way, maybe with cables rather than rods.

Re: NG TA handbrake cable/linkage

Hi Ron

If you need new cables made to your design try Speedgraph Richfield I had some made for a couple of vintage MG's and found them very good.

Cheers
Jeremy

Thanks for that Jeremy, I will have a look at them.
