Radiator replacement

I think I need to replace my radiator... looks like it's leaking, and it's not one of the hose connections. Does anyone know where the radiators that came in the kits come from? Or a location for a suitable replacement?

Re: Radiator replacement

Hi Ian,

I believe there were several options for the radiators. One option was a radiator from the old 1800 'land crab' as they essentially had the same 'B' Series engine as the MGB and Marina amongst others. Another option was for the Austin Maxi radiator. Both of these rads had top & bottom headers. I have a Marina based car and ran the standard Marina radiator rotated 90 degrees from its original fitment. This was ok but very marginal on a hot day especially in traffic. The solution for me was to buy a Ford radiator with top and bottom headers and have it re-cored by Serck Marston Services to the dimensions that I wanted and additional cores. Not a problem since.

The V8 cars had a radiator with a square hole cut in the middle to accommodate the water pump nose. I believe these were supplied by NG.

My recommendation would be to look locally for a company, such as Serck Marston(There are others), and have the radiator rebuilt to the size you want and have an extra core fitted. Not the cheapest solution but having a car that you can trust on a hot day in traffic is well worth the investment.

You didn't say what engine your car has? Is it the 1800 'B' series or a V8?

I am sure that others will have some other information views on this topic.

Regards

Paul

Re: Radiator replacement

Hi Paul, thanks for the response. My engine is a standard 1800. I've been looking over my rad for some sort of maker's mark but can find nothing. I've taken measurements so I know the size; guess I'll have to hunt around for something that will fir the space - the downside of that lovely tapered NG nose!

Re: Radiator replacement

Hi Ian. Have a look at Bogg Brothers on the web. This link should take you to gallery pictures. I have used them for a smallish job and will contact them again, should I have radiator problems. http://www.boggbros.co.uk/gallery.html

Re: Radiator replacement

Thanks, Ron, I'll check that out.
