Re: Panhard Rod

Hi Paul,
Thanks for email. Not sure how long its been adrift but had noticed the odd clank now & again. Came to light when on ramp for pre spanish ITV test.Handling didnt seem unusual so I have decided to remove it & see how it goes.
I have been told it wasnt NG`s best engineering & many TF`s run without it.
Happy Motoring
John

Re: Panhard Rod

The NG panhard rod was pretty naff, but when I broke the bolt in mine the tyres touched the body work and the handling was "exciting" - I also have a AH Sprite to which I have added a panhard rod, my Rover SD1 has a watts linkage (similar but better) - they do improve the handing if you tend to "hustle", but are not essential.

Re: Panhard Rod

Thanks Malc for info. Nigel Brooks has found a replacement but I will try running without
& see how it goes. If detrimental I will fit a new one.
Cheers
John

Re: Panhard Rod

Hi All,
Took Ol`Blue out today for a test without Panhard rod & found tyre occasionally
rubbed inner wheel arch during energetic cornering (that is energetic for a septuagenarian}.
Decided to bight the bullet & ordered rear suspension poly bush set & a new Panhard rod from
Nigel at Findhorn. So hopefully this will sort the problem.
Thanks again to all who have offered tips & advice
Cheers from a burning hot Andalucia
John

Re: Panhard Rod

Hi John,

Just as a matter of interest, when at rest, what clearance do you have between the tyre and the rear scuttle??

Re: Panhard Rod

Hi Paul,
Cars at garage 50k distant so cant measure at moment but from memory looked like a 2 " gap. When I go back will measure both sides & see if axle is centralised.
Cheers John

Re: Panhard Rod

Hi All,
New rod from Findhorn now fitted & handling transformed . The rod bushes must have been shot long before the chassis bracket failed as handling has never been so good while I have owned Ol`Blue. RESULT !
