Mr ToAd has a dynamo and positive earth - last night the dynamo stopped charging for 7-8 miles when I was driving back from Aberystwyth in the dark shortly after starting off. No apparent loose wires, no real reason and it just started charging again with no input from me.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be most welcome.

The problem is if it's working there is no fault to find. You need it to fault out then it will be easier to isolate the problem. If it dropped out and then back in again, does sound like a loose connection. Dave

AS you say its working now! Just don't want it to stop working on a night drive again.

I plan a winter rewire and conversion to negative earth with an alternator - perhaps I should plan this sooner!

Sounds to me like one of the armature brushes was held up for a while , take em out and give a little sandpaper treatment jems
