Re: Car prices

Just to back up what Jeremy was saying about cars being correctly registered.

My advice would be that unless it says 'NG' on the V5c then walk away. The DVLA is difficult to deal with and has the final say without appeal.

I have never heard of a 'TA' going through the current IVA test successfully. The 'TF/TC' model will go through the IVA test but this could involve dismantling the car and more or less starting again. There are some chassis differences and other changes required to get through IVA for earlier built cars.

I am not saying it is not possible to put an older car through IVA but this will involve some effort and financial outlay to achieve this. This is one of the reasons why there can be a significant price differential in similar looking cars. The correctly registered cars hold a premium over cars that aren't registered correctly.

Regards

Paul

Re: Car prices

That said, price is not always reflective of registration status.

My TC V8 was at the top of the prices mentioned here, although given the money that went into it, I was happy with the price. And it's registered as an NG

But I nearly went to look at another, up for £19k (!) which is registered as an MGB. It's a superb car, but that one major flaw frightened me far, far away.

Re: Car prices

I think that is the exact example we mean - the registration status affects the value - whilst the car was for sale at £19k it was not worth that and you walked away because of the the registration issue -it made the car unsellable.

Re: Car prices

Has anyone got a photo of it or reg # ???? Must have been pretty special for £19k.

Re: Car prices

I do think it's lovely, but as I said, it's an MG. Even says so in the advert. It's had a grand knocked off since I was hunting in September.

Re: Car prices

You can get nicer cars for less money if you are prepared to wait colour is subjective personally not to my taste

Re: Car prices

Looks like a nice car but not exceptional. Even if registered correctly it does look like £19K's worth IMHO

Re: Car prices

Agreed. It does have an element of dealer protection, of course, but I never would have paid that for it, even if I'd seen it and they'd sorted the registration (at their cost).

I ended up with something with more of a 'hot-rod' look to it, which is what I originally fell in love with 20 years ago.

The detailing on the blue one is very nice though.

Re: Car prices

This familiar car is a better price and spec
