Carbs

Hi I have been having an ongoing problem with fuel starvation for some time now. Last year I refurbished a new pump lagged the exhast system and fuel pipe reset the float height the latter having the greatest effect.

This year the same scenario as last year only it started with the fuel pump not working at all replaced pump wonderful then it reverted to only liking short runs anything over 10 miles in traffic and it cuts out till it cools down a bit.

So it seems related to heat but I have possibly the thickest spacers fitted to the carb set up probably around 14mm and it is a new heat shield with a lagged exhast so why?

Could it be the fact that I have HIF4's fitted and not the old HS4's has anyone else fitted HIF4's and had these problems?

Re: Carbs

Hi Phil,
If you are sure it's fuel starvation, have you tried removing the feed line at the carbs when your engine stops and checking the amount of fuel being delivered? It could be something floating in the tank and blocking the pick up. Also when did you last replace your fuel filter?
It could of course be a red herring, it may be electrical, coils do show a similar behaviour pattern when breaking down. (And so do rotor arms as I found out!!)
Hope this helps, keep posting
Mark

Re: Re: Carbs

Hi Mark thanks for your reply I agree the problem is that everthing is new the SU fuel pump was new sa is the coil etc the car has only done around 1800 miles.

I got home the other day and it would tick over ok but if you floored the accelerator it would die and not restart untill it had cooled down a bit if you were gentle with the pedal it was ok so I enriched the mixture untill it would not cut out this would seem to be a cure untill I noticed the fuel guage go down at an alarming rate!!!!!!!!!!

So made it weaker and it seemed to work for a bit but as soon as the car got to working temp it started to splutter again so I think it is the dredded bimetal jet mount.

So anyone got a set of HS4's I can try??
