I've cut and pasted this from a thread on the Marlin Owners' Club, of which I'm also a member:

The exemption for Classic cars from Vehicle excise duty was frozen 10 years ago. A petition has been raised asking to change it back to being on a rolling basis of cars of 25 years plus.

"Currently cars have to have been constructed before a set date - the 1st January 1973 to be eligible for historic car tax exemption. We the undersigned would like the date to be move as it has been fixed for a number of years."
