Oil pipe failure...

Shortly after I built my TF, the flexi-armoured pipe between the engine and oil pressure guage failed (it was new and from a garage at Swavesey.) Half a gallon of oil was dumped on my drive.

I purchased a replacement from a garage at Baldock, and this lasted about 3 years, before failing and dumping a further half gallon of oil in a car park.

Each time it took a while to clean up the engine compartment.

Our editor tells me the same thing happened to him, and he has recorded it on his excellent website.

I now carry a spare.

This note is to warn others in the hope they don't suffer the same problem miles from home.

PS. If it does, remember to carry a pair of mole grips as a pipe compression 'Get you home' fix.

John.

Re: Oil pipe failure...

Yes, indeed. Mine went after I did some work on the cooling system and, in true Herbie style, almost squirted my feet. At least it was at home in the garage. After John's experience I too am now carrying a spare.
