I grew up in Freehold in the 1950s and early 1960s. I remember my mother used to go to Asbury Park to shop in the late 50s. We used to go for a ride on Sundays to walk on the boardwalk. My Bar Mitzvah was at the Albion Hotel in 1960. Asbury Park was absolutely a destination - a place to go to see and to be seen. I was last there in 08/2015. How I miss the old Asbury Park.

Fell in love with Asbury Park. Remember it as a child. Now enjoy the Music scene. And the people that keep it thriving. \"What a cool place!\"

I go to the Jersey Shore every summer, usually twice a summer. I stay in Lavalette, but hang out and party in Seaside. I loved your classic Seaside videos and if you have any more please upload them.

My husband and I had our honeymoon at the Christian Admiral. Over the next few years we often got rooms there. It was the best deal in town and the food was delicious. I\'m saddened by the news that the hotel is no more. I remember the little bowling alley and the board games room and the ice cream shop that was opened after the Sunday evening\'s service. We were married in 1976 when Dr. McIntyre still conducted his services there. We attended a couple of them but was more interested in love than in anything else at the time. Our daughter loved all the pillars surrounding all the little shops? were they? Anyway, she said that with all the sand around, she felt like she was walking through some kind of Egypt house. We kept that pet name for the Christian Admiral.

Thank you for posting the information and wonderful pictures of the Admiral Hotel. When I was little, we vacationed in Cape May almost every summer. We stayed at the Montreal Inn but we would walk over to the Admiral to look inside the beautiful lobby and to take pictures of it. While staying in Rehoboth Beach, DE, my husband and sons took the ferry to Cape May for a day trip. I was so excited to see the place where I had so much fun as a child. I was shocked to see the Admiral was no longer!!! It was such a presence and what has replaced it is horrible.

I am pleased that the Montreal Inn is still there and we plan on spending a week in Cape May next summer. Rehoboth has become overridden by "MTV rejects" (I think someone else on your blog came up with that descriptive term.)

I worked with your father at the Press in the early 70s, was its sports editor in from 1974-79 and then moved on to The Associated Press, where I worked for 26 years. I really liked your father, we ate lunch many a day at the Sweet Shop on Main Street in Toms River. I was disconnected from this area for many years and didn't know of his passing until I read your stuff. My best to you.

I was a maid at the Christian Admiral for the summers of 82-84. The first day of work, they put my on call on the night duty. There was a thunder and lightning storm and I was going up and down that old workers elevator scared to death. People kept calling me for light bulbs, towels, Raid... everything!

It was a beautiful place. I loved the big porch, but when I was there I think the owner had brought lots of people from Africa to work? Not sure. it was a strange group when I was there. We liked setting up the bowling alley by hand and going back up to roll the ball down. The Library was beautiful.

August 1998 my sister and I drove from Colorado to NY, but made time to "go by" and just see the Christian Admiral. What a shock to just see a grassy field with what looked like a hole in the middle that had opened up and swallowed it whole. It was probably the eeriest feeling in my whole life! The whole building was just gone!

Weren't there porcelain bathtubs in each room? The kind with the little feet. Those big wooden framed windows you could open to let your hair dry in the breeze. Was it the 5th floor that was mostly yellow? Each room was different. they said Mrs MacIntyre traveled to many places to decorate each room differently? Not sure if that was true? I do know that almost no 2 rooms were exactly the same.

I'll have to see if I can find some pics.
